UMD Women advance to Elite 8

(Mankato, MN/Minnesota News Network) — The Minnesota-Duluth women’s basketball team has advanced to the N-C-A-A Division II Elite Eight with a come-from-behind, double overtime win over Concordia-St. Paul 94-87 last night in Mankato. The Bulldogs led by four points at half time, but trailed by eight points heading into the fourth quarter. They outscored the Golden Bears 12-7 in the second O-T to secure the victory. Senior guard Maria Counts of Crystal paced U-M-D with 25 points, while senior guard Myra Moorjani of Eden Prairie added 21 points. Senior forward Lexi Karge of Mankato chipped in with 20. Concordia-St. Paul was led by senior guard Lydia Haack of Elk River and junior forward Lauren Wilson of Springville, Iowa, who each netted 21 points. The Golden Bears finished their historic season with a 26-7 record. Minnesota-Duluth improved to 23-8 and will play in next week’s Elite Eight in Pittsburgh. The opening opponent will be determined after a re-seeding process.
