VANCE BOELTER TO MAKE SECOND STATE COURT APPEARANCE

Vance Boelter will make his second appearance in state court today (Wednesday).  Boelter has been federally sentenced to two life terms for killing a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband in what officials say was a politically motivated attack.  According to filings from his lawyer, Boelter will rely on defenses of “reasonable use of force,” “justifiable taking of life” and “double jeopardy.”  A motion for a change of venue was also filed due to excessive pretrial publicity in Hennepin County.  Boelter pleaded guilty in federal court to killing Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark and wounding Senator John Hoffman and his  wife Yvette.  Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarity says the state case against him will proceed.  Boelter’s bond has been set at $5-million without conditions.
