Vikings Defense Sets Tone in First Padded Practice

The Minnesota Vikings defense controlled Monday’s first full-pads practice at training camp in Eagan.

Cornerback Byron Murphy Junior intercepted JJ McCarthy during the closing two-minute drill. Isaiah Rodgers broke up two passes, while Dallas Turner, Caleb Banks and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins repeatedly disrupted plays in the backfield.

McCarthy and veteran Kyler Murray continued rotating with the starting offense. Neither quarterback completed the final two minute possession, with the defense controlling both series.

The offense still produced several highlights. Jordan Addison caught a touchdown from McCarthy during seven on seven work and made a diving sideline reception earlier in practice.

Second year tight ends Gavin Bartholomew and Ben Yurosek also continued making an impression. Both caught intermediate passes from Murray while working with the second offense.

The Vikings have not named a starting quarterback, and the competition between McCarthy and Murray remains one of the biggest stories of training camp. Official Vikings practice report
