Vikings dominate New York

(East Rutherford, NJ) — The Minnesota Vikings opened the Sam Darnold-era with a 28-6 win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium yesterday in New Jersey. Minnesota led 14-3 at halftime before getting a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game away. Darnold completed his first 12 passes and ended with 208 yards. He tossed touchdowns to Justin Jefferson and Jalen Nailor in his Vikings debut, while Aaron Jones added 94 yards and a score on the ground. Andrew Van Ginkel had a sack and a pick-six in the victory. The win was Minnesota’s first by more than 17 points since 2019. Giants’ signal-caller Daniel Jones struggled, passing for 186 yards and two interceptions, while New York rookie receiver Malik Nabers had five catches for 66 yards in his N-F-L debut. The Giants have lost seven of their last eight season openers. Minnesota will host San Francisco this Sunday in Minneapolis. The Niners host the Jets tonight.
