Vikings Rookie QB McCarthy To Undergo Surgery
(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings will not have their first-round rookie quarterback on the field to start off the new season.
Minnesota signal-caller J.J. McCarthy is set to undergo surgery this week to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
Team doctors will decide during surgery whether McCarthy will need a trim of the meniscus or a full repair.
A trim could allow the 21-year-old to return to action this season, while a full repair could sideline him for his entire rookie campaign.
Veteran signal caller Sam Darnold had been the presumed starter for the season opener on September 8th in New York against the Giants, but the injury to McCarthy all but confirms he will be.
The Vikes traveled to Cleveland Tuesday, where it will have joint practices with the Browns today and tomorrow before a preseason game between the two clubs on Saturday afternoon at 3:25 PM.
