Wet Fields, Diesel Costs Squeeze South Dakota Harvest
Wet fields and expensive diesel fuel are creating a difficult harvest for eastern South Dakota farmers.
Producers near Lennox say September rain has left fields muddy and delayed combining, while fuel costs add pressure to their budgets.
Governor Larry Rhoden has signed an order allowing eligible agricultural loads to travel at ten percent above normal weight limits. The state is also suspending its 25-dollar overweight-trip permit fee to help reduce hauling costs.
Posted bridge limits and the 20-thousand-pound limit per axle still apply.
