When Do the 2024 Olympics Start? See Dates and How to Watch

The 2024 Paris Olympics are quickly approaching, one might say as fast as Simone Biles’ flips or Sha’carri Richardson in a 200 meter race.

Around 10,500 competitors representing 206 countries will take part in one of the 45 sports featured in the Summer Games, according to the International Olympic Committee website.

As the world counts down to the opening ceremony, here’s what to know about the Games’ official start, location and some of its Floridian competitors.

When do the 2024 Summer Olympics start?

The Paris 2024 Olympics begin on Wednesday, July 24. The first two events of the Games are men’s soccer and rugby sevens.

However, the games do not officially begin until the Opening Ceremony in Paris, taking place from 1:30 to 5:15 p.m. ET on Friday, July 26.

When do the 2024 Summer Olympics end?

If you miss the opening ceremony, you still have 16 days to watch the Games. The last day of the 2024 Paris Olympics is Sunday, Aug. 11.

There will be 13 gold medal events, including men’s water polo, women’s volleyball and the women’s marathon final.

Where are the 2024 Summer Olympics?

A majority of this year’s Olympic events will be held in Paris. This is the third time the French capital has hosted the Summer Games, having previously hosted in 1924 and 1900.

The 2024 Paris Olympics has 35 venues in total, such as the Seine River, the Château de Versailles and surfing events in Teahupo’o, Tahiti.

How to watch, stream the 2024 Summer Olympics

NBC and Telemundo will be broadcasting daytime Olympics coverage between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. The opening and closing ceremonies are free to watch on the NBC Olympics website.

The United States has the most Olympic medals of any country, according to Olympedia, a database maintained by the International Society of Olympic Historians. The total includes 1,229 gold medals, 1,000 silver and 876 bronze.
