Why Some Minnesotans Feel the “August Blues”

If the end of summer leaves you feeling uneasy, you may be experiencing what some call the “August blues.”

A Minnesota professor compares the feeling to the “Sunday scaries.” People may feel regret over summer plans they did not complete—or anxiety about returning to school, work and regular fall routines.

The “August blues” are not a formal medical diagnosis. The term informally describes the sadness, stress or uncertainty some people experience as summer winds down and the days grow shorter.
