Wild fall in Shootout
(Denver, CO/Minnesota News Network) — Colorado star Nathan MacKinnon scored his 43rd goal of the season in regulation and then scored again in the fourth round of a shootout as the Avalanche took the extra point against the Minnesota Wild yesterday 3-2 in Denver. MacKinnon scored the opening goal in the second period but the Wild responded with a pair in the third from Kirill Kaprizov and Nico Sturm to take a 2-1 advantage. Colorado’s Nic Roy tallied to make it 2-2 which was enough to force overtime and then the Wild fell short in the shootout with MacKinnon scoring the deciding goal. Jesper Wallstedt got the start and made 33 saves along with 2-of-4 in the shootout. The Wild are 2-0-1 in the last three and 8-2-1 in their last 11. They’ll drop the puck on a four game home stand starting Tuesday night against the Mammoth.
