William Robert Hanek

William Robert Hanek, age 86, of Montgomery, died on Thursday, July 25, 2024 at The Emeralds at Faribault. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, from 4pm-7pm at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 1 at 11am with visitation one hour prior at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father George Grafsky, officiating. Interment will be held Calvary Cemetery in Montgomery. Military honors will be provided by the Montgomery area Veterans Honor Guard.
Bill was born on July 18, 1938 in New Prague to John and Augusta (Birnstiel) Hanek. He attended St. Raphael’s (Holy Redeemer) Catholic School in Montgomery and graduated from Montgomery High School. He served in the United States National Guard. Bill was united in marriage to Marlene Borst on May 7, 1960 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. He worked as a mail carrier in Faribault and then as a Warehouse Foreman for Green Giant/ Seneca in Montgomery for 40+ years. Bill enjoyed family and friends, fishing, travelling- especially Texas, and a sports fan for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
Bill is survived by his wife, Marlene Hanek of Montgomery; children, Sue (Joe) Wondra of New Prague, Steve (Connie) Hanek of Le Center, and Sandy (Don) Zellmer of Montgomery; grandchildren, Alli (Cole) Sinnamon, John Hanek, Kelly (Courtney) Reed, Jennifer (Nick) Zurn, Anna (James) Ryburn, Emilee (Peter) Thompson, Skylyn (Griffin) Ernste, and Brandon Zellmer; 2 great-grandchildren.
Bill is preceded in death by his son, Johnny; his parents, John and Augusta Hanek; and brother, Robert Hanek.
