Willmar Selects Next City Administrator

The Willmar City Council has selected Willmar City Operations Director Kyle Box as Willmar’s next city administrator.

City officials will now negotiate an employment agreement with Box which will ultimately be approved by the city council.

Box was hired in May of 2022 as the city operations director and was previously the city clerk for the city of Marshall.

He will be replacing City Administrator Leslie Valiant, who announced her retirement that becomes effective in January.

However, the West Central Tribune reports Box has been acting city administrator since mid-May when the council placed Valiant on nondisciplinary administrative leave without pay.

The reason has not been discussed publicly.
