Wrong-Way I-29 Crash Kills Brookings Man

A 19-year-old Brookings man was killed in a four-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 Thursday morning.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Toronto woman was traveling south in the northbound lanes shortly before 6 A-M.

The wrong-way vehicle struck the Brookings man’s pickup near mile marker 140, about seven miles north of Brookings. Two additional northbound vehicles were then involved in the crash.

The Toronto woman was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other two drivers were not injured.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved. The investigation remains ongoing
